***2016 HELP: One-click setup for OpenSim--Sim on a stick. Software by Fred Beckhusen. HGProjects

One-click setup for OpenSim--Sim on a stick.
Software by Fred Beckhusen.  HGProjects
Fred Beckhusen has open-sourced a one-click setup for Diva OpenSim distro on your computer. This greatly simplifies the task of installing opensim on your computer.  This is the kind of development that we need to encourage the widespread use of OpenSimulator.  A similar simplification could be made for the setup needed by new people coming into a grid on Opensim.

Diva OpenSim distro, while easy for you, is not easy for new people. Specifically, there is no easy way to create a shortcut to the opensim.exe that is portable across drives, and a mesh-compliant viewer must be installed and started with a specific "--loginuri" command line. That is what this installer does.--Fred Beckhusen

Why would normal people want to install SOAS?

SOAS installations could be of use in certain "real world" businesses. If it were installed on a laptop, consultants, architects, interior decorators and others could take the virtual world to the the client.  The client could look around in the building, garden, landscape, or mall.  The client could walk around as people would in the finished building.

Another step for HGProjects

New Media Arts recently posted instructions for getting into Kitely, the base grid for our operations.  You can read them here:
On my HGProjects wish list is a one-click install on a grid registration page.  It would install Firestorm already set up to run on that grid, so that entry instructions could simply say, "After you register, click the install Firestorm viewer button, wait a few minutes for the viewer to be installed, and log into your new world."
