2013 HELP: V3.2 Be sure to see the BOPs in Second Life

V3.2 Be sure to see the BOPs in Second Life
-
BOP = Browser on Prim
-
Four live BOPs.

-
Viewer 3.2 and other new viewers can show a web page on a prim.  Such a prim looks like a poster or sign, but it is a live current web page. You can scroll it to show the rest of the page.  You can watch a video (with sound) on it. You can also transfer the link to your main browser if you want to see it there or to make a bookmark for it.
-
People are using this technology to post schedules of events, videos, and calendars. Since the calendars are live web pages, they are always current.  Furthermore, you can scroll the calendar to see future (and past) events.
-
But you won't see the web page unless you tell viewer to show media.  And you may not want to do that without some tweaking. Here are some suggestions on how to tweak.
-
-
"Allow media to autoplay"
-
That is a setting you can check in the Sound and Media tab of Preferences
V3.2 Preferences button (gears).
 -
If you leave that setting unchecked, you would see things like the picture below.
-
The same posters as before
with the viewer not told to show media
-
You can still see the web page on a prim, though.  Just click on the prim.  But the autoplay method is easier and faster, so I normally leave autoplay on.  With a tweek of the streaming music channel.
-
The autoplay setting, you see, applies to all media: streaming music, video, and BOPs.  Yeah.  I know they should have made a separate option for each channel  But we gotta play the hand that's dealt us.  The problem with streaming music is that it is streaming almost everywhere.  So if you move around a lot, the music will change a lot.  I find that annoying, so I tweak the music stream setting to low volume -- background music.   I can always turn it up if I like the music and expect to be in the same place for a while.  Or I can stop it by a click on the Pause button (vertical bars, top right).

If I turned off autoplay, I would miss some ot the BOPs, for sure.  And I like a little soft background music.

When you click on a BOP you can see a control bar hovering above it. The home page button (little house) is important if you don't see what you expect.  A click on that little house will usually get you the page you expected to see.  (The prim is a browser, so people can take have it show other pages with a click).
-
Click on the last button to the right and the web page you see will open in your regular browser. That will be be useful if you want to bookmark the page or do things with it.
-
SLurls
These BOP pages will often carry live SLurls (web links leading to places in Second Life.).  You can click on them.  That will take you in a couple of steps to a teleport option.  Or you can open the page in your regular browser.  From there you can usually dragNdrop the slurl onto the viewer screen.  That will get you a teleport option, too.  Or you can copy-paste a slurl into the navigation bar of your browser (for newer viewers).
