2013 2ndHELP: Music and video, hear and see

What you need to know
to hear/see audio and video
Instructions for V3.x viewers.
-
Sound & Media
Preferences, Sound & media tab
-
-
Channels:
You have several sound channels and can control them independently. Here are my suggestions:
Me (Top left) - Preferences - Sounds and Media
  • Mute ambient if the wind noise bothers you.
  • Turn down or mute sound effects if they bother you.
  • Check allow media to play automatically
  • I  leave streaming music disabled except when I want to listen to the music at a venue.
Most places have a music stream.  Some places also show video.
-
Quick access to the sound channels
Hover your cursor over the loudspeaker symbol on your viewer.  A popup window will appear win the same controls as above.
-
Hear, control Music
Music is probably on by default.  To adjust the volume simply, hover your cursor over the loudspeaker symbol (upper right of screen}.
-
That adjustment changes your overall volume, including voice, media, and inworld sounds. So here's how to make more specific adjustments for each channel:
-
Me (top menu bar)--Preferences -- Sounds and Media
Use slider bar to adjust any channel.  The ambient channl turns off wind noise..

How to play streaming music in Second Life - Second Life Wiki 2012
-
If the music stream does not play,
Cick the pause button (2 vertical bars).  Wait a minute. Click pause again.  If that does not work, relog.
-
Video -- old system
Some video will use the old media system.  For that, you must have a current version of Quicktime installed on your machine.  If you see a blank screen or a still picture, you may need to get a current copy of Quicktime.    It is free from Apple.  Google on Quicktime.  Look for the Apple website, probably at the top of the first page.  Follow the instructions to download and install it.
-
Video -- shared media --   V3.x viewers
You can watch a video on any prim that is set up to show webpages.  .  If you have "Allow Media to auto-play" checked on the Sound and Media window, you will see a prim that is a live webpage.  You may need to click on a play tab to start the video,
